I have plants I'd like to identify. How do I post pictures here?

Here's a step-by-step way to post pictures.

In your question, or answer, click on the icon on the top row that looks like a box with a mountain in it. It's to the right of the brackets.

A window will open that looks like this:

If you want to post a picture from your computer, double click on the big box. Either drag and drop or double click the picture you want. You'll see a preview of it in the box. If you don't like it, click cancel and choose a different one. If you're happy with it, click "Add picture" and it will pop right in.

If you want an image that's already online, or that you have a url for, click on the sentence that says "You can also provide a link from the web." That will open a box that looks like this:

In that box you can put in the url of where the picture is, then choose "Add picture."

There are other ways to post images, using HTML to control things like size ratios. The markdown help page explains that.

You can add the picture while you are first writing the question or answer. If it is already posted, you will need to edit it.

That will take you back to the text editor. In there, you will see a small black square with a silhouette of mountains and a sun. That is the Image button.

This opens a dialog that asks you to provide a picture. There are three ways to provide the picture.

1. Browse - you can click on 'Browse' and it will open a dialog box where you can select the picture you want to upload from your device.
2. Drag & drop - You can drag and drop the image from your computer into the dialog box
3. Paste - you can click on "paste" and it will give you a dialog box to paste in a link to the picture somewhere online. Note that the link needs to be directly to the picture, not a web page with the picture on it. Even if it's the only picture there. Right Click -> Open Image in New Tab will often get you to the naked image.

After your picture appears in the dialog box, you can hit 'Add picture' and a link will be inserted into the text box. The link asks you to enter an image description so people relying on screen readers can follow your post. The actual link is in a footnote at the bottom of your post.

Note on image size

Images are limited to 2MB in size, which isn't very large. If you need to downsize your image, you can crop out a smaller portion of it to upload, use a free online image resizer like imageresier.com, or 'export' it as a new, smaller image, if your device allows.
